Hanukkah

Hello everyone!

Today is the first day of Hanukkah, the festival of lights! I have friends that celebrate this holiday, and there are lots of people all over the world that celebrate it, too. They celebrate it for eight nights and share gifts and food with their families. In lots of families, it’s also a tradition to eat a special kind of bread called challah (pronounced HA-LA) bread. They eat it warm with butter.

Also, Christmas is December 25. I’m sure a lot of you know about or celebrate it. Lots of families decorate a tree with lights and ornaments, and give each other gifts on Christmas Eve or Day. Just like other holidays, this one is also about spending time with family and friends, sharing good food and lots of laughs! I know I always love hanging out with my family.

Winter has arrived!

Hey guys,

Did you know the official start of winter is December 22? That’s so soon! Where I live it definitely already feels like winter…BRRR! We’ve had super cold weather for at least a month now, and everyone is wearing sweaters and hats and gloves.

Also, did you know that in the southern hemisphere December 22 is the start of summer? That’s right! The start of the seasons are opposite once you cross the equator so places like Australia and South America are just getting into their warm season. Sure would be nice right about now to drink a cold lemonade instead of hot chocolate.

Then again, I sure do love those melted marshmallows.

School Pageant

What’s up?

My school pageant (pronounced PA-GENT) is coming up and I’m really excited. We are performing The Night Before Christmas, which is a story about, well, the night before Christmas, and I get to be a reindeer! Even though my part is kind of small I have to be at all of the rehearsals, wearing my antlers, to make sure I know exactly when to come on stage and where I’m supposed to stand. I have never been in a pageant before so I am getting kind of nervous, but I’m really more excited than nervous.

Have you ever been in a play or performance before? I have a lot of friends who dance and perform in front of people, like all the time. So they are very comfortable being in front of people. And even though I’m in a band, when we have a concert, there are lots of other people with me so I don’t get that nervous. Even though performing can be a little scary, mostly it’s cool because you are entertaining!

Gotta go finish my homework!
